Users can track the status of selected sites and maintain multiple versions of targeted pages. The program can detect when a page has changed. The captured pages can be searched and analyzed, and maintained over time. In addition, Webstractor pages can be edited using a built-in word processing tool set. Special tools are provided to easily crop areas that are not needed, convert colored text to black, remove background colors, compress content to fit the page, and generate a table of contents, all useful when composing content for print or to generate a PDF file. In addition to managing Web content, the program supports the importation, through drag-and-drop, of Microsoft Word files, text, images, and RTF and RTFD files.
The program maintains thumbnail images of each browsed page in a vertical drawer to the right of the main window. Pages can be selected for viewing by simply clicking on a thumbnail. The contents that reside in the program are independent of the original Web site, and can be viewed off-line.

Searches are conducted easily in the intuitive interface. Results are are displayed in either a Digest, Pages, or Log view. The Digest view displays a listing of associated topics on the left, along with a graphic scale showing their relevance, and a numbered listing of pages with their URLs and up to two lines of text on the right. In the Pages view the user sees a graphic representation of the relevance of the result, the date of the posting, its size, its URL, the page name, and initial page text. Clicking on a listing results in a view the page contents with the search terms highlighted. The Log view shows a list of the pages which were filtered out for one of several reasons, such as it was already archived, it contained no useful information, it contained spam, it contained an advertisement, or any of many other errors. The program provides a new and useful way to mine data from the Internet. Its usefulness can be extended with the use of DEVONthink, which supports the manipulation of the captured data. $35

According to Keith Hevenor, writing in Electronic Publishing magazine (September, 2003), "A host of surveys, studies, and other research has shown that digital proofing is not only accepted, but fully embraced in the industry today." Although soft proofing has enjoyed a significant acceptance in the printing industry, its two-dimensional quality does not completely replace the need for viewing a proof in three-dimensional space. The surface of the substrate, as well as any special finishing processes, such as embossing or varnishing, cannot be seen, and therefore cannot be "proofed."
The static nature of the typical soft, or digital, proof, does not make allowances for the surface of the paper that will be printed on, nor the on-press or post-press treatments that the printed surface may be subjected to. For certain kinds of work, such as packaging, magazine and book covers, greeting cards, and others, which undergo one or more of these operations, their appearance cannot be represented in a two-dimensional space on a computer display. At least not until now. PrintDevizor, a cross-platform print visualizer system, is a novel application that enables realistic on-screen viewing of special inks and decorative finishes in a three-dimensional space. This remarkable, and unique, application enables the user to rotate a printed page model a full 360 degrees, in any direction, panning and zooming, and utilizing any of a variety of lighting conditions. The movement of the print model in this viewing environment allows the user to assess easily, and accurately, the print and finishing appearance of the job as it will appear when complete.
It is, in fact, quite expensive to produce mock-ups or on-press proofs of jobs that must undergo several specialized printing and finishing steps. PrintDevizor eliminates that need by providing a realistic environment in which to apply, modify, and view these effects without the time, labor, and cost of producing expensive hard proofs.
To use PrintDevizor the user prepares a job with their standard 2D design software, such as Photoshop. Design images are used as masks onto which are applied the PrintDevizor options. Within the PrintDevizor environment substrates can be selected (paper/board, colored, matt/satin/mid-gloss/glossy, smooth, textured), and a variety of print effects (process color, spot color, metallic, and fluorescent inks) and finishes (foil blocking, embossing, debossing, varnishing, laminating, glitter, and flitter) can be applied.
The user interface is clean and direct, and the results are immediate and compelling. The color of the background can be selected, and any of six viewing environments can be selected. Print models can be saved and sent to clients who have the PrintDevizor or PrintDevizor Lite software, or images (in JPG, PSD, PNG, TIF, TGA, or BMP file formats), animations, or interactive QuickTime VR views can be e-mailed.
A free trial of the software is available at http://www.stonecube.com/downloads/pd-full/. The sophisticated PrintDevizor viewing environment requires a fast graphics board. Stonecube, the creator of the software, provides a free hardware test at the same URL. $695
